HIS JOURNEY STARTED IN KUWAIT
YALONDA JAMES, yjames@charlotteobserver.com

Naeem Fazal was born in Kuwait and was a teenager in the midst of the Gulf War. He came to the United States in 1992 to live with his brother in Charleston and eventually converted from the Muslim faith to Christianity.

After serving eight years on staff at Seacoast Church in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Fazal – along with his family and 25 church members – moved to Charlotte to become pastor of a church called Mosaic.
It opened on Jan. 22, 2006, at the AMC movie theaters at Northlake Mall with a worship band, flashy lights and a multimedia team.
Since then, Fazal’s church has grown to 750 worshippers during five services. The church holds morning services at Northlake Mall and a night service at the Visulite Theatre near uptown.
